Subgraphs input naming confusion

Prerequisites

• I am running the latest version of ComfyUI
• I have searched existing issues to make sure this isn't a duplicate
• I have tested with all custom nodes disabled (see how)

What happened?

The input node should actually be renamed after renaming it.

When setting a name of an input inside the subgraph, the name is showing inside and outside of the subgraph, but the next time one right-clicks on the input name, the dialog shows the original name.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Right-clicking the input name, it will read what it currently is e.g. "clip"
2. Rename the input to "test123"
3. Click "OK", you will see the name you gave
4. Right click the input again, it will read "clip" again

This is a known bug: renaming a subgraph input updates the name visually, but the rename dialog shows the original name because the widget label wasn't updated alongside the slot label. The fix for this was merged in PR #4821 and backported to the 1.25 branch, so it should be included in your version (1.25.11) — see release notes.

If you're still seeing the issue, it could be a regression, a caching problem, or another related bug. Try clearing your browser cache and reloading the workflow. If the problem persists, there may be a new edge case or a related UI sync issue. The subgraph feature is still evolving, so keeping an eye on recent updates and bugfixes is recommended.

Seems to me that subgraphs were released to stable a tad bit too early...

I was experiencing something similar last time I used subgraphs, the input slot was giving me "NaN" upon loading the workflow and disconnecting/reconnecting the slot didn't help. I moved from the latest frontend to the stable and still had the problem, but then switched tabs and it fixed itself. Probably a new bug that was not present on release.

Update: I am now running frontend version 1.27.3, because it solved a problem on another custom node I use and it seems that it keeps the naming!

If someone else can confirm this, we can close this issue.

And I'd like to express my thanks for all the efforts a lot of you are putting into ComfyUI and custom nodes. It's a great and creative environment and in the contrary of the mainstream opinion, I think AI is what you make of it, and with it. And ComfyUI is definitely the most open environment to plug dreams and make them real. (pun intended)

Closing this with the remark that the problem is solved when running frontend version 1.27.3 and newer.

If you want to run ComfyUI with this frontend version before it get's merged to stable add the following to your startup script:

--front-end-version Comfy-Org/ComfyUI_frontend@1.27.3

Just make sure that you remove this again, once this version, or a newer one is stable!
